Anacleto Ribuca "Koni" Batted, Jr.

Anacleto "Koni" Battad of Eugene died Jan. 1 of age-related causes. He was 75. A memorial service and traditional Hawaiian feast will be held later on Kauai, Hawaii.

He was born May 17, 1934, in Kauai, to Anacleto, Sr., and Eleanor White Battad. He married Pearline Pang in 1963 in Hawaii, and they divorced in 1968. He married Hester Parsons Oct. 12, 1973, in Hawaii.

He attended the Hawaii School for the Deaf, Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles Trade College.

He worked as a forest fire fighter in Hawaii, was the middleweight champion boxer of the Hawaiian Islands, was on the volleyball team that played in the deaf Olympics in Yugoslavia in 1969, and was a registered nurse. He also worked as a teacher's aide for deaf students and an artist for educational books.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Analani Battad of Hawaii; a son, Anacleto "Poki" Battad of Hawaii; three sisters, Arlene Battad Kon and Angie Nora Rogers, both of Kauai, and Maile Ann Kaopuiki James of Molokai, Hawaii; a brother, Alwin R.L. Battad of Salt Lake City, Utah; and two grandchildren.
