Bonaventure A. Achinanya was born on July 14, 1947 in Alike-Umunumo, Ehime-Mbano local government Area in Imo State, Nigeria. Bona departed on Sunday, June 6, 2004.
Bona received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1975 from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. and a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation & Counseling in 1977 from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Until his sudden death, Bona worked for the Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) as a Staff Specialist for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing for several years, and was nearing retirement. Bona served as a member of the Mayor's Commission on Disabilities in Baltimore City. Bona also served in numerous Baltimore City Community programs for the deaf.
Boa received numerous awards for his dedication in the education of the deaf and hard of hearing which includes awards by the United States Department of Agriculture, and the State of Maryland Governor's award. Bona was for many years, and active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Bona made numerous friends where he went and will sincerely be missed by everyone who knew him.
Bona leaves to mourn the following members of his immediate and extended family: Dr. Fidelis N. Achinanya, Mr. Lawrence Achinanya, Mr. Hyginus Achinanya, Chief Anthony Achinanya, Mr. Tobias Achinanya, Mrs. Doris Achinanya, Mrs. Mabel Achinanya, Mrs. Priscilla Achinanya, Mrs. Bibianna Achinanya Aniugo, Miss Geraldine Achinanya, Mrs. Rosecathrine Achinanya Dike, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
