As of July 16, 2009: Long-term temporary substitute teacher with knowledge and skills in ASL and ASL linguistics, some experience in teaching ASL or Deaf education. Position is for one quarter of school year, due to teacher on maternity leave. This sub position begins on Aug. 31 for 4 days of orientation, staff meeting, classroom preps. Classes begin day after labor day. Sub teach 10 weeks - until November 13th. George Mason High School is located in Falls Church, Virginia; accessible to highway 495 and within walking distance from Metro, orange line. The school offers ASL courses in ASL 1b (8th grade), ASL I (beginner/intro), ASL II (intermed), ASL III (advanced). This school year have 3 classes (ASL 1b/ASL I combined; ASL II; ASL III). The class size tends to be small - ranging from 6 to 15 students each class. Classes are on block schedules, alternating days with 1 class in the morning, 2 classes the next day. The school is part of the Falls Church City Public Schools system (FCCPS). FCCPS HR director, Lisa High, requires a completed application before arranging an interview.
