VASLTA shall:
- promote the official recognition of ASL as a language.
- promote professional quality in sign language instruction for ASL teachers and encourage ASL teachers to acquire ASLTA Certification.
- encourage education institutions to include ASL in their curriculum.
- encourage education institutions to hire ASLTA certified teachers and VASLTA members.
- implement national ASLTA standards and procedures in the teaching of ASL.
- facilitate an effective avenue for the exchange of information regarding methods and materials in the instruction of ASL.
- maintain a local directory of VASLTA certified and non-certified members.
- host a minimum of two workshops a year.
