VASLTA Goals

VASLTA shall:

• promote the official recognition of ASL as a language.
• promote professional quality in sign language instruction for ASL teachers and encourage ASL teachers to acquire ASLTA Certification.
• encourage education institutions to include ASL in their curriculum.
• encourage education institutions to hire ASLTA certified teachers and VASLTA members.
• implement national ASLTA standards and procedures in the teaching of ASL.
• facilitate an effective avenue for the exchange of information regarding methods and materials in the instruction of ASL.
• maintain a local directory of VASLTA certified and non-certified members.
• host a minimum of two workshops a year.
